The Sunny Side of Life

My husband came up from his basement office late this afternoon and said, "Will you come with me to pick out new sunglasses?" Sure, I answered and so off we went. We were cracking up in the car on the way to the mall because it has always been one of our "things." We help each other pick out glasses and spend an inordinate amount of time trying on frames that are utterly ridiculous and we end up nearly peeing our pants. But it was sobering this trip. The Lens Crafter employee that greeted us handed us a tray and asked that we place any frames we try on in the tray and not return them to the racks as she would need to sanitize them before putting them back. We are beyond grateful that we have both been fully vaccinated and while we are very slowly entering into the outside world, masking up everywhere we venture, it is still so strange how quickly we forget that even the littlest things we used to take for granted like trying on silly frames at the store are changed in our new reality. We chose only a few frames and made our trip as short as we could, and I told my husband, the pink cat-eye frames will be waiting for him next year.

Oh my, we need eye exams too and to try on glasses. Even though we're fully vaxed, it still doesn't feel all that safe yet. That's funny about you and your husband having fun with the sunglasses.

I never thought of that. I have to go get my eyes checked. Every now and then I spend so much time arting and crocheting that I forget the world is so different, until I’m out in it.

Even after a year of this, I still can't get used to things being so different.

The plexiglass between the cashiers and customers. Things being out of stock, like canned cat food. I'll be needing my eyes checked soon and never even thought about how different it might be to try on frames.
